Definitely winter here! Snowy Sunday!

One hour into the snowy day....

Several hours later, still snowing!

A good day to bake the "Impossible Pie". The original recipe uses Bisquick but I substituted gluten free pancake mix.

Will have a photo soon.....when it comes out of the oven! Meanwhile back to my knitting basket....working on a cowl knitted from NORO "King" sock yarn...mohair, wool, silk and acrylic. Hand dyed effect...loving the colors!

I just reached the PINK part of the yarn!

Another favorite winter passtime, with beautiful flowers and gardens....and nice "granny chic" clothing, is watching the BBC mystery series, "Rosemary and Thyme". Lovely!

The pie is out of the oven now! Once it cools and "sets", we will have some with some tea!

As you can see, even with the gluten free changes, the crust ended up on the bottom! Impossible!

Yummy, too!

 

Snowy Sunday

 

16 degrees F, the temperature is dropping and it is still snowing, lightly. St. Francis out in the weather, above, doesn't seem to mind!

Our neighborhood is quiet!

Mr. P just left to go help a neighbor dig his car out, after he got stuck!... a favorite sport around here

A good day for tea drinking, and reading....

I just finished knitting this strawberry tea cozy.....now to enjoy a last day of Christmas treats!

Since the Christmas tree and its cheerful lights are being put away, these little lighted branches help dispell the gloom of dark winter days! Not costly, they have LED light bulbs and the branches are flexible!

I sewed this apron over the weekend....went to work ( Steve drove me) Saturday but they sent me home as there were no customers!

Tree is decorated! And I am ready to sew at the breakfast table today...why try to heat the downstairs studio?

My little Singer featherweight sewing machine will be just fine for this project! Making dresses for the twins...I have had the dresses cut out and ready to sew for a month now. It is good to have the time and space to finish them!

I'm also sewing some hooded bath towels for them, larger than those I made when they were infants!

 

also trying to trace down a large sum of money which the federal reserve seems to have taken from Mom's estate bank account... !!!!

It's snowing today....

 

....but Sunday was beautiful!

 It was our 40th wedding anniversary.  We drove to the town where we had gone for our honeymoon and walked up and down the streets for several hours...more about that once the photos from Mr. P's iPhone are available....

Meanwhile, out in Oklahoma, a ewe had twin lambs and rejected one.  Our niece, Natalie, who is about to have her own little lamb, had to start mothering a little early!
The lamb is doing well and thinks she is his mother now! We think she is going to be a wonderful mom!

These I am posting because I love blue and white stripes at times!  If I could just get my photos organized and uploaded in a good way, then I might do a post about that!...

Now to curl up on this snowy day with a good book....I picked up The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, at our library just now, ran to the grocery store as the flakes started to fall and then stopped at the rehab center where Mom is to take her some treats! (black cherry yogurt is a favorite with her)

Fun with the Holga camera yesterday....or "I finally got some film!"

The camera has only a few simple settings, just point and shoot! I did a deliberate double exposure of our elm tree and the house across the street, above. I think this is my favorite of these shots taken as the shadows were lengthening on the snow-covered yards. This elm is so large and powerful that it has an almost mystical presence for me. Last year's ice storm took out much of the canopy but it has survived!

My snow-covered garden bench and our mailbox are two of my other favorite images. How many years have these things been in our yard, providing a quiet place to sit on the one hand and fun and interesting news and packages on the other!

These other photos were taken either in the shade or about an hour later when the sun was lower; they show a slight rosy color on the horizon. Some of the photos have the "black soft edge corners" which are typical of the "vignette" effect the Holga is famous for. I definitely like the sunny ones best...funny thing too, Mr. Pear told me that I was using Black and White film, so I was surprised when I picked up the developed pictures this afternoon!

I am sharing the camera for awhile with my friend, Tracie...so it will be fun to see what she photographs!

Looking down the street, it is almost sunset now.

a few inches of snow and everything stops!

I get to stay home and read, the things I had on my schedule have all closed today!

My friend Gayle (who didn't have to go to work today because of the snow) e-mailed me about the "Creme Bartlett" quilt which was on HGTV this morning. I love the photos of it! It is in a book by Jayme Crow and she offers kits too!

(I won't be making it....I'm still behind on making an airplane crib quilt for my grandson!!!)



Another quilt I like is this one with the "snowflake man". [I know I posted him earlier but he is perfect for today!]

Yesterday's snow still lingers.....


This is our backyard this morning....in a soft grey light.

The bamboo is strong and flexible to bend and not break with the weight of the snow.

Looking up into the branches of a large cedar tree and appreciating the texture of the bark , knotholes and dusting of snow.

This old lawn chair, under the cedar tree has its own light dusting of snow this morning....don't think I'll be sitting down just now!

A forecast of SNOW!


This charming snowman and snowflake quilt is from some designers who call themselves, "Joined at the Hip". I probably won't make this one....I still haven't finished a "Snowbound" quilt I started in an earlier millenium....LOL!!!!
