Home from rehab!

Above, Mom is now home from her doctor's appointment this morning, reading today's paper and wearing a knitted hat against the cold outside!
These lilies from Laura are still blooming!... now that she is home they are in her room here.

I recently found this very old photo.  It shows Mom as a child, about 1930, before the dust bowl in Eva, Oklahoma.
She is wearing a new green velvet hat and standing in front of a bush with yellow roses. She told me those colors when she looked at the photo.  She can't remeber the dress, so I can really play with the color there!.

I have made plans to use this photo as inspiration for a painting. As soon as I have quiet time to sketch and plan and paint!

For now, I am thankful to have her home here.....and doing better!

I'm retired now! (temporarily!) This gives me time to spend with my Mom. We are trying to help her close up housekeeping and move in with us by the end of summer. No easy task, as we are constantly stopping to remember. Reading letters from years gone by, and finding more photos than we knew were here! This photo from about 1954 shows me and by little brother with our Christmas dolls. My paternal grandmother is in the photo too. She would have been about the age I am now. [Funny, I don't even feel grown up at times! I remember her telling me that I would not believe how fast my life would go by.]

My mom was great at giving me home permanents, here is my 3rd grade school photo. These aren't the greatest photos, but they are in the computer files here....representative of what we are finding in the archaeological dig through the closets!

After a well-earned break to enjoy Yarnell's Lemon Ice Box Pie ice cream (below) with mixed berries on top, we will return to excavating!

Being away from home, I can't go to my regular yoga class or see the moring TV show which I usually watch with my teacher, Andrea . Luckily the teachers, Brian and Andrea, have made a wonderful DVD that I can take with me! I think doing this gentle workout will be a real boost! Posting from Little Rock this afternoon!
I'm visiting my mom, and instead of sewing, I found a different pin cushion here.
The pin cushion flower. A perennial which is in full bloom in Mom's backyard now!

Inside her home, is this wall-hanging which I made about 1980. It is called, "Lady of the Lake"...I still love that name and this pattern!

Having time now to browse the internet....books on art and gardening. These are now coming my way! (from Alibris)

Mary Woodin's "Painted Garden" (2003) is full of watercolor sketches of an English garden....no way could I resist!

This charming book from 1911 was featured in a post by Karen of the CORNFLOWER blog. I have never sucessfully grown domestic sweetpeas...it is too hot here I think ( though we do have a wild, fushia-colored variety in our roadside ditches in May). I once had Laura Ashley wallpaper with a sweetpea border.

[painting by Van Gogh]

Today is my mother's birthday. I will be going to stay with her this weekend.

A couple of weeks ago I was staying with my daughter (except she went traveling while I stayed there!) . Laura is a travel agent who has specialized in the Caribbean. Here is a link to what she and my son-in-law did (her blog) while Lizzzie and I were babysitting in her home in Georgia!
[If you read the last 4 posts you will feel like you have visited the area too!]

Never forget to stop by my October 1st post to leave a comment and be entered in my birthday drawing! Caw! ( or Krah?)
