Where is the world is this stone building? It is the court house of Jasper county Missouri. I have just returned from this town where, along with my friend ,Gayle, I attended a funeral for friend Lizzzie's mother. The funeral was in a church built in 1869...making it almost 140 years old. From the church's interior which features marble and stained glass (even a large "rose window") it was apparent that this had been a wealthy community.

The town is Carthage, Missouri. The church is Grace Epsicopal. This town (on Route 66) has many Victorian structures, including wonderful large homes, built from the stone of local quarries. At one time there were more millionaires per captita than any other city or town in the United States.

Attending a funeral is a time to think of our own presence here, the riches we have been given...and much more.

Here is a favorite quote: "We are so lightly here. It is in love that we are made. In love we disappear."---poet Leonard Cohen.

The architecture of these buildings is beautiful. I've been to lots of parts of Missouri but I don't remember if I've been to Carthage.
