Flower Wheel small quilt in process

Scrappy strip sets of assorted widths with the 18 degree, 8" long wedge ruler, ready to cut 20 wedges to make this circle/wheel block!

I used men's soft cotton dress shirt fabric ( yes, I cut up a shirt from Goodwill!) for the background.

Since I don't want a target or dartboard looking block, I moved the circle off to the side, and added a flower panel of Anna Maria Horner fabric...warm saffrons and red!

It is ready for the appliqué center, and hand quilting!

The backing is a print of hippy- dippy beads on purple! Hopefully, the Bohemian vibe is coming through on this one!!!!

Once it is quilted, I can bind it and embellish it, maybe beaded fringe...???? We'll see!

 

It may become a donation to our guild's small quilt auction, or for sale on ETSY!

Finishing and donating

the living room being taken apart for cleaning after donating the old sofa. New ones arrive in a day or so...so the carpet can be rotated and general rearranging can now occur!

But, I have other "irons in the the fire"! Making brandied cherries...I pitted the cherries a day ago then had to wait until I could get the canning done ( today!).

One last photo of my sunshine quilt before sending it off to it's new home....draped over our mailbox in the morning sunshine!

I've finished cutting out the pieces and will now stitch up the " ART STUDENT TOTE" from Anna Maria Horner's pattern. It will be very roomy....maybe even large enough to carry some small canvases! Here are my fabrics.....back later with the bag!

Meanwhile here is a shot of my sewing space.....lots going on!

The art student tote is ready for lining, with more pockets! But I am ready for bed now so tomorrow it will get its crazy, "almost leapord print" lining!

Windows 8 and Grandmother's Window quilt

This morning, I am working with the newly installed Windows 8 on this computer.
I think I will like it.....but of course there is a learning curve!

All the photos we had on Windows 7 seem to have evaporated [very bad!...or a clean start?]

So, I do have a "window" photo to share, tee hee.....one of the few I have at the moment on this new program (just now saved to this computer by emailing it over from my iPad....oh, what a complex web this is becoming!)...

 The quilt is called, Through Grandmother's Window.

We  have been enjoying it the last week on our bed, but now I need to add a hanging sleeve so that it can go into our guild's quilt show soon!

Cherries in the garden....


I've just come back into the air conditioned house after enjoying watercolor painting in the garden. What a beautiful day for the last of June!

An impressionistic sketch of the garden, it is getting more tangled and full of French marigolds and snapdragons. The photos show the "real" thing today.

Shameless self-promotion again, I'm afraid! This bag has just been listed in my shop!
I have the day off, a different work schedule this week with the Fourth of July holiday. It is a perfect summer day! I just love being out by my garden, so will now head out there and see if my birds are using the birdbath, or maybe I'll see a butterfly. At any rate, I can carry my lunch out there, with some raspberry iced tea.
