The diplomatic French have a lovely solution to our "problem" of what to call your "in-laws"!

beau-père = father-in-law

belle-mère = mother-in-law

These terms of endearment are much easier on the ears and easier to say (fewer syllables!) than our terms. I would not mind being addressed as "Belle Mere"
rather than by my name or something I'm not to them (like "Mom" or "Grandma")!

I agree!

And I've seen the term "Belle Mere" before, in Corey's wonderful blog.

Luckily, my daughters in law and I are past any "Mom" term. I really didn't feel comfortable with that one. But they both call me by my name now and that's fine. Wish I had the "Belle Mere" suggestion, years ago though.

I like that ~ I have never been comfortable calling my MIL "Mom" ~ so (I know this sounds bad) I usually avoid calling her anything at all. She is not the easiest person to get along with. I would love to call her by her first name, but I think she would be offended.

Happy New Year!!

And I am back again. :-) Yes, I love Tasha Tudor also. And so admire how she lives in her own world, in her chosen 'time.' How wonderful. -happy sigh-

Could we do it? Probably not as fully, as she does. But, she is still an inspiration, isn't she?

Happy and Healthy New Year wishes to you and to yours...
