Still trying and learning....gluten free

Using Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Pizza Crust Mix....for the first time.

the mix  is pretty wonderful....but I wasn't sure enough with it to make a thin crust.
This is rustic pizza....with fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and fresh Roma tomatoes. Ready for the oven....it is baked directly on the oven rack....not on the metal pan.

Coming out of the oven with a pizza peel.

It was pretty good....the crust could have been thinner, as in Udi's frozen gluten free pizza crusts.

I will probably choose the frozen ones for future pizza, but think that Bob's Red mill mix could make wonderful cinnamon rolls and other gluten free yeast breads....maybe even be used for the dough in the Gooey butter cake recipe about which I just posted!

I use Gluten Free Pantry Pie Crust mix - not because we are gluten free - but because it is the absolutely best pie crust I've ever eaten. It is a bit more complicated and takes longer - you MUST chill it - but oh the taste!

I too am gluten free. I have the pizza crust mix but haven't used it yet. I'll remember to make it thin. Be careful of the potato starch products they do cause weight gain. Have you read Wheat Belly?

My daughter and I do like this mix!
I'll watch out for the weight gain! We are using the mix for focaccia bread and for cinnamon rolls....the recipe is on the package. I "saved" my pizza leftovers by turning them into wonderful Panini! I' trying to post about that now...if Blogger will let me upload my photos!

I have been planning to read Wheat Belly. I'll see if the library has it.
My son has Red Mountain Chiropractic in Boise Idaho and he teaches about gluten free living. You can like him on Facebook.

I've been thinking about going gluten free, but it would be so difficult because my husband would not go for it at all! If we went out for pizza, he would NOT order it! My oldest daughter has recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune blood disorder (her body attacks its own platelets)which the hematologist said often goes with hyperemesis gravidum (extreme pregnancy nausea) which most of the women in my family has suffered AND celiac disease. Hmmm, we are wondering if that could be the cause of digestive problems my mom, my sister and I have suffered. I've noticed that it is so much worse if I eat cracker, cookies, bread or cake! I live on Prilosec! I've heard of the Wheatbelly Diet too--because wheat was changed in the early 70's I believe to a more productive hybrid, we now have a difficult to digest grain as opposed to the ancient variety of wheat which was a healthy food. Makes sense to me. Tampering with our food supply to increase yield amounts to greed that is harming us.

I'm sorry to hear about those painful and frustrating health issues you are having!
Both of my children are eating the gluten free way now, and feel that it is helping them.
I have cut "way back" on wheat products and notice if I do have several cookies, I feel more achy and arthritic the next day.
My hubby likes to avoid carbohydrates so that is good....
Just do what you can to cut back....there are more and more products available. the breads are best if you lightly toast each piece before you eat it!
